Types of Online Dating Messages That You Should and Shouldn’t Send

Coming up with the right set of words isn’t easy. Trust me, I’m all too familiar with it. It definitely doesn’t get much easier when you’re trying to grab the attention of someone who you’re even moderately attracted to. I think we’ve all been there at one point. You go out with friends and you’re sitting in a smoky room, with the smell of wine and cheap perfume, and you wonder what you can do to spend the night and it goes on and on. Journey sure is great.

With online dating, we don’t have to worry about all those missed connections. You have all the time in the world to craft the perfect opening and you end up saying … “Hey”. There is an infinite amount of things you can say to someone and “Hey”, should not be one of them. There is nothing more boring than those three letters. Online dating is all about leaving an impression. So the last thing you want to do is to blend into the crowd. Imagine having an inbox filled with messages saying “Hi”, or “Hey”. You wouldn’t respond to that, there’s not much more you can say to it.

Genuine, heartfelt messages are the key to anyone’s heart or fun bits, whatever you’re looking for. Fill them with compliments, witty humour and other clever remarks you can come up with. Talk about what you two have in common and yes, that means you actually have to read their profile. But at the same time you’re not Shakespeare. Writing a sonnet is the last thing you’ll want to do. No one wants to read something that long and it’s an 11 on the creepy scale.

Shakespeare

Insulting people until they like you used to work in grade school. I met my first “girlfriend” when I was 6 because I threw a snowball at her. Single file ladies. Unfortunately life isn’t as simple anymore. Insulting people over messages will result in an empty inbox and I’m pretty sure that that’s the last thing you want. Being mean is okay when you’re joking around but it’s kind of hard to show sarcasm over a message.

The whole point of online dating is trying to get someone to reply to you. And that’s hard to do if you’re not asking a question. So ask something. Show that you read their profile and ask about something that pertains to them. If you’re feeling lazy, ask them a bunch of would you rather questions because those are always hilarious. Something fun and a little weird, but try not to get too weird. Never go full weird. My go to question when meeting new people is simple, “What did you watch as a kid, Arthur or Franklin?” If there’s one thing people like talking about, it’s the 90’s. And for the record, the correct answer is Arthur; I mean who really wants to watch a turtle?

Also, I feel that I should add this: DO NOT SEND ANY DICK PICS!
