Three Puffs of Gold is the story of a survivor of date rape and what happens when her silence takes on a magical life of its own.
Actress and dancer, Meena Serendib, is working on this short film which she wrote in June of 2011. Having wrapped up filming a few weeks ago, and moving into post-production now, the cast and crew are hoping to have the film ready by February 2012 to make the festival rounds.
Meena currently volunteers at a rape crisis centre and is producing a documentary about the centre’s SEM program as well. SEM stands for Sexually Exploited Minors. Meena reflects that “Every one of these kids has an inadequate support system at home in addition to living in already vulnerable environments. Not a single one of them ‘chooses’ to be a sex worker.” Through the SEM program they receive consistent support that helps to keep them off the streets and working toward a healthy life.
Not one to stay still for long, Meena is also in pre-production for The Magician and the Brown Girl—a comedic web-series. With Meena in the role of the magician this will definitely be something to watch out for in spring 2012!
