On February 23, over 80 Montreal Tamil university students and young professionals gathered at the “Espaces Des Arts” to take part in the Montreal Tamil Alumni Network’s (MTAN) kickoff event: “MTAN’s Vins et Fromage: Meet Your Network!” The concept of an association that unites and strengthens the Tamil social and professional network in Montreal gave rise to the birth of MTAN, and this event was the starting point for achieving its vision.

Dr. Selvan Rajakesari and Mrs. Maithely Navaneethan were the featured speakers, inspiring professionals in the medical and financial sectors who show passion and dedication in their work. Dr. Rajakesari highlighted the necessity of work-life balance in his career as a health care professional. Mrs. Navaneethan spoke highly of the importance of professional unity while retaining our cultural heritage as the key to progressively developing the Montreal Tamil community as a whole.

Additionally, a formal presentation was delivered about MTAN’s vision and values. Its core is based on the unique concept of DNA as presented by Venoth, one of MTAN’s executive members. MTAN’s values are based on Development, Networking, and Assisting initiatives that allow students and professionals a greater insight into further developing their careers. With these strong fundamental values, Venoth presented issues and initiatives that MTAN hopes to address with the support and guidance of its growing membership base.

As MTAN’s first event since its inception, the commentary from those who attended were generally positive. One guest stated, “The event was really well organized. Great job with the event! Looking forward to more fun events and team bonding activities!” With the successful sponsorship of advertisers and an intimate environment for Montreal Tamil students and professionals to network and share ideas, MTAN has garnered positive results in the creation of a networking event. It was truly a memorable night!
