Mindy Kaling, star of the hit show ‘The Mindy Project’, landed her first major fashion magazine cover with Elle’s annual Women in TV issue. While the recognition is well deserved for the talented star and a first for a female of Tamil background, the feature has raised some concerns. Alongside Kaling, the Women in TV issue also features Zooey Deschanel, Amy Poehler and Allison Williams, all featured on their very own covers. However, Kaling’s cover is the only one in black and white with her body hidden in the image.

Here are some of Kaling’s fans reaction to the cover:

” this is stunning…but am i the only one that is a bit bothered that the rest of the covers ( the 3 other tv cover girls) are in colour except for hers??”

“they’re ashamed of her skin colour and body type and this is their way of dealing with it. it’s ugly on Elle’s part”

“I love Mindy and it’s high time she got her own cover, so this is great.
BUT – am I wrong to be pissed off that
1) it’s not even really her own cover because she’s sharing it with 3 other women
2) said 3 women all, unlike Mindy, get to actually work their fashion in larger portraits – presumably because they conform to the physical parameters of a “cover girl”
3) hers is the only portrait in black & white… black & white!!! Can we not have colour IN COLOUR? “
