Having an interesting job is important, but having a good boss can sometimes be just as crucial.

Research suggests that workers assigned to better bosses are less likely to leave the firm and are likely to be more productive.

Employer review website Glassdoor has analysed data from thousands of anonymous reviews left on its UK website in the past year to pick out which company bosses are rated highest among their staff. CEOs considered for the UK list must have received at least 20 reviews in the year to April, and be running firms with more than 1,000 employees.

Some of the highest rated bosses head multi-national companies with a base in the UK, while others head up homegrown successes.
“Gaining the trust and approval of an entire workforce is one of the most difficult yet rewarding responsibilities for any leader,” said Robert Hohman, Glassdoor chief executive and co-founder.

Employees were encouraged to give their opinion on the best reasons to work for their employer, any downsides and their approval rating of the chief executive.
