In case you need a few good reasons on why giving back is good for you, here are five. But hopefully you’re not the type of person who needs to be convinced that doing good is… well, good.
1. Have a say in how your community grows
Your contributions can help you further the causes that are near and dear to your heart. Love music? Support a charity that helps musicians. Someone a lot smarter than me once said, “A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in”
2. It makes you happy and healthy
Studies shows that people who give back are healthier and happier than people who don’t. Don’t believe me? Check out this article for the cool scientific proof.
3.Helps you form social connections
Chances are your charity of choice is going to hold a fundraiser or two. And do you know who’s going to be there? If you said “people who support that charity” then you’re right! It’s likely that you and these people share similar friends. So why not get together and be friends in the name of a good cause.
4. Adds meaning to your life
What feels better than knowing that you are the reason why someone’s day or even life is just a little bit better? Make a difference for others and you’ll a change in yourself.
5. Because people will think you’re awesome!
That’s right. People are going to see you do great things for others and they’ll say “Oh, did you see Allan? He’s so charitable and therefore awesome!” This is exactly how the conversation will go, except it could be your name.
Giving doesn’t always need to be financial. You can always give up your free time that you’ll probably spend doing things that don’t make you a better person.
